Savvy Situation: MTV star turns fame into fortune
Mike Sorrentino should change his name to "The Corporation."
As the second season of MTV's pop-culture phenomenon "Jersey Shore" gobbles up the biggest ratings the network has seen in seven years, breakout star Sorrentino (a.k.a. the Situation) is astutely capitalizing on his fame. By year's end, the 29-year-old stands to earn more than $5 million, a source familiar with his finances told The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are really excited about all the opportunities coming Mike's way," said Sorrentino's manager, Mike Petolino of Gotham Entertainment. "He has been able to secure many endorsement deals, business opportunities and additional television offers based on the success of the show. Our goal has always been to try to build a brand if the situation presented itself."

Russia, the US, China... now Denmark to send man into space
The Soviet Union gave the world cosmonauts, America followed with astronauts and China eventually added its own Sinonauts. If all goes to plan on a floating platform in the Baltic sea during the next three weeks, a 63cm-wide rocket hand-built by two self-employed engineers will herald the unlikely arrival of a new breed of space pioneers – the Danonauts.
Depending on weather conditions and some last-minute fine tuning of its oxygen-fuelled engine, the Hybrid Exo Atmospheric Transporter or Heat 4 rocket is scheduled to launch from a barge off the wind-swept island of Bornholm before mid-September. In so doing it will bring significantly closer the day when Denmark – a country hitherto better known for the combustive qualities of vikings and roll mops – breaks into the exclusive club of four nations to have sent a human being into space

Intruder arrested at Paris Hilton's home
A man has been arrested at Paris Hilton's Los Angeles home after the socialite said he tried to break into her house while holding two big knives.
Hilton said on her Twitter page: "So Scary, just got woken up to a guy trying to break into my house holding 2 big knifes. Cops are here arresting him."
Police Officer Gregory Baek says the man was arrested about 6:30 a.m. but his name hasn't been released.

Tiger Woods and wife divorce
The world's No. 1 golfer, Tiger Woods, and his Swedish wife, Elin Nordegren, divorced on Monday following the torrid sex scandal that engulfed Woods late last year.
Woods, reputed to be the world's wealthiest sports star, and Nordegren, a former model and nanny, issued a statement confirming the divorce, which had been widely anticipated for months after his public confession of infidelity in a blaze of publicity.

Lady Gaga overtakes Britney Spears on Twitter
Lady GaGa has overtaken Britney Spears as the most followed person on Twitter.
To celebrate Lady GaGa thanked her followers in a video.
"Thank you for beginning my reign as Twitter queen," she said. "May you always have soft cuticals whist tweeting and never have carpal tunnel [syndrome]."
The singer now officially has more followers than the likes of US president Barrack Obama (5,077,349), Justin Bieber (4,726,078), Coldplay (3,041,130) and Lily Allen (2,298,053).

"Avatar" returns to theaters with extra footage
James Cameron's sci-fi epic "Avatar" revisits global multiplexes this weekend in a quest to pad its record $2.74 billion worldwide box office and hype DVD and Blu-ray Disc special editions planned for the fall. In fact, the theatrical rerelease is billed as a "special edition" of the eco-themed fantasy based on an extra 8-1/2 minutes of footage featuring additional action segments and other scenes.
The 2D DVD and Blu-ray Disc special editions expected to hit store shelves in November will feature at least 16 minutes of extra "Avatar" footage, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

Ou Est frontman jumps to his death
The lead singer of British pop band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool jumped to his death after playing at a music festival in Belgium.
Charles Haddon leapt from a telecommunications mast behind the main stage at the Pukkelpop festival and fell to a parking area below on Friday. Belgian police are treating the death as suicide.
The band had performed at the festival in Hasselt shortly before Haddon climbed up the mast. The band played the Glastonbury and Bestival festivals last year.

Jolie to film love story set in Bosnia war
Angelina Jolie is starting work on a movie about a love story set during the 1992-95 Bosnian War.
Jolie, who made a surprise visit to Sarajevo over the weekend, said shooting would begin in the autumn on the tale of a couple who meet on the eve of the war and the effect it has on their relationship.
"The film is a love story, not a political statement," Jolie said, "I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can".
